Currently under way: finishing works on the motorway course, lawn-mowing, resoiling, finalizing retaining wall decorations, cleaning of road surfaces, preparations for the opening scheduled for Monday, the 25th of August.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE (22 AUGUST): TUNNEL “1ST OF MARCH”
Tunnel “1st of March” update:
The official opening of the Tunnel “1st of March” for traffic is scheduled for the 25th of August, 2014. The finishing works include final landscaping touches, installation of protective fences, and cleaning of the tunnel surfaces ahead of the inauguration. All contractual obligations have been met. The structure has been given a technical acceptance certificate and is ready to be put into operation according to schedule.

Construction update: the construction of the Svilaj-Odžak motorway is currently proceeding with the filling of embankments along the entire course of the motorway as well as the access roads.
Workers have started installing the equipment for drilling of vertical drains which will speed up the soil consolidation under the carriageway structure.

EURO-ASFALT’S AID LORRIES FIRST TO REACH MAGLAJ
Through very difficult terrain marred by flash floods and landslides, Euro-Asfalt’s heavy duty lorries loaded with humanitarian aid managed to break through and reach Maglaj. The aid was distributed directly from the lorries with the help of the BiH Armed Forces. Our convoy was the first that managed to reach Maglaj.

EURO-ASFALT AT SAGRA ’14 FAIR
On the 6th of April, on behalf of a BiH-based consortium, Euro-Asfalt took part in a panel discussion “Strengthening of regional cooperation in the construction industry, and at the institutional level, for the purpose of joint ventures, especially in foreign markets,” which was held as part of the Civil Engineering Fair “SAGRA ‘14” at the Skenderija Center in Sarajevo.
Euro-Asfalt CEO Hamed Ramić and Technical Director Enver Ajanović gave a presentation titled “BiH consortium’s experience in domestic and international market,” in which they briefly presented the history of our company, as well as our plans for future growth and development by making our way into domestic and international markets.

Steel fixer Amel Škulj: We built this tunnel with our hearts!
Steel fixer Amer Škulj from Kakanj, an employee of Euro-Asfalt, was among the 300 workers who have spent the last two years working around the clock building the most challenging tunnel on the 5c Corridor motorway between Sarajevo and Zenica. Although it seems unbelievable nowadays, Škulj claims that he did not work solely to earn a salary. He did it for his people and his country. And he was overjoyed today, at the finishing ceremony of the second stage of constructions.
“What can I say, I am thrilled. To me this tunnel is not just a structure, it has become a part of my country and my people,” Škulj told the BiH-based news agency Patria (NAP).
Amel feels proud to have been a member of a team which, in his words, jumped at the opportunity to help their country when the fate of this important corridor was hanging in the balance. Before the FBiH Government decided to entrust this project to domestic ones, as many as two Slovenian construction companies tried and failed in completing this strategically important tunnel.
Today, at the closing ceremony for the second and most challenging stage, everyone was proud of their engineering marvel – from the contractors’ CEOs to the FBiH Prime Minister, Nermin Nikšić. But the tunnel appears to have left the strongest mark in the hearts of ordinary workers.
“This is a tough and dangerous job. But when you are surrounded by good colleagues, nothing presents a challenge. I always came here and left with a full heart. I was not working here just to earn a salary. I was here to make a contribution to my country,” Amel told NAP. He proudly added that he built a part of himself into the tunnel.
“I worked in Slovenia for a few years, but it’s not the same. Over there, you work for a wage, for somebody else. Here, you work for yourself, for your country, and for your own people,” Amel said, adding that he would like to see more projects like this one in BiH, and therefore more jobs for his unemployed friends.

21ST TABLE TENNIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Dear friends of the Stens Euro-Asfalt Sarajevo Table Tennis Club,
The 21st BiH Table Tennis State Championship was held on the 1st and 2nd of March, 2014 in Sarajevo. The winner in the category of men’s singles is Admir Duranspahić, and in the women’s singles category Emina Hadžiahmetović.
Member of our club, Dragana Iveljić-Kerkez, finished at the third place. We are very pleased with this result, and with the fact that three of our members rank among the top eight players in the country. This proves that, although we are a young club, we are doing a good job and achieving good results in all categories. This will pave the way for even more progress and even better results in upcoming state and international competitions. The event was very well organised, and the competition was the best one so far, with the highest number of participants and a great atmosphere throughout the event. All competitors were served sandwiches, doughnuts and croissants, as well as soft drinks. We have raised the bar when it comes to the organisation of top-level regional tournaments.
In the unofficial part of the competition, participants were greeted by the Assistant Head of Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality for Education and Sports, Elvir Resić, Assistant Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Suvad Džafić, while the competition was opened by a member of the FBiH Government, Salmir Kaplan.

Our next competition is the II TOP 8 BiH for men and women, which will take place on the 8th of March at the sports hall in Ilijaš. After that, we kindly invite you to attend the Sarajevo International Table Tennis Tournament “STENS OPEN 2014”, which is to take place on the 21st and 22nd of June 2014 at the “Ramiz Salčin” sports hall in Mojmilo. We shall make sure to push our organisational skills even further. We also wish to express gratitude to our sponsors, Euro-Asfalt, BH Telecom, Sarajevo Tobacco Factory, Perutnina Ptuj and Aspek.
